With a background
in engineered products the company developed a gelcoat
fiberglass bath. considered a bold move at the time, as
the market was dominated by cast iron and pressed steel
products, acceptance was moderate in a typically conservative
market.
The next significant
phase in development came in 1978 when Metro Industries
acquired all the shares in GKN Plastics and renamed the
company Multiform Plastics Engineering. Still, engineering
and tank making were the major areas of operation, with
large contracts in mining areas including Argyle and Pinjarra,
forming the backbone upon which the company grew.
During 1983
Preston Engineering in Scotland were contracted to design
an acrylic vacuum forming plant complete with a number
of bath moulds. The plant was commissioned mid 1984 and
progress was slow into the housing industry.
A family company,
Glendalough Holdings Pty Ltd, acquired the Multiform Plastics
Engineering business in July 1986, its objective was to
manufacture acrylic products only, and to concentrate
all efforts into that pursuit.
Multiform
in now one of the largest acrylic bath manufacturers in
Australia with interest in Malaysia and export markets
in South and South East Asia.
The Multiform
product is produced from cross linked sanitary grade acrylic
and conforms to all Australian product standards and AS3902
Quality Assurance Programmes.
Multiform
has continued to expand in all market areas. More significantly,
the company has made many major advances in product design,
production techniques, material usage and technology advances.
In-house design and construction of moulds ensures the
company will keep ahead of future needs and trends within
the building and construction industries.
The company
manufactures an impressive range of baths, basins, laundry
troughs, shower bases, spa baths and
spa pools.
